Episode Transcription

Welcome to Ground Up, a podcast about propelling entrepreneurship in Uganda, brought to you by UEEI, the Uganda Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Initiative. I'm your host, Ham Namakajjo

And I'm your host Fay Kakai. Tune in every Monday for engaging one-on-one discussions. We’ll be talking to a variety of entrepreneurs, support organizations, as well as hosting solution panels tackling specific topics on the ecosystem in Uganda.

During our Entrepreneur Spotlights we'll be talking to entrepreneurs about their journey, challenges they've faced, as well as how they have overcome them. Our Entrepreneur Support Organization Spotlights will focus on what these organizations do, the impact they've seen from their work, challenges they've faced, as well as how these can or have been solved.

During our Solutions panels, we’ll delve deeper into pertinent challenges within the Ecosystem and with subject matter experts, we’ll ideate on how to tackle them. We'll cover the areas of Finance, Capacity Building, as well as Policy and Advocacy.

UEEI is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at propelling entrepreneurship in Uganda with a four pronged long-term view of strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

We convene Ugandan ecosystem stakeholders to identify common interests and collaboration opportunities, to build a shared vision around bolstering entrepreneurship in the country.

Secondly, we collaborate with stakeholders to co-design initiatives to address the most binding constraints on the entry and growth of Small and Growing Businesses that create quality jobs at scale.

Thirdly, we’ll drive catalytic financial support to kickstart new efforts or strengthen ongoing initiatives. How do we plan to do this? By encouraging a full range of financial actors to participate in the initiative with both their insight and capital. These could be investors, banks, government, or philanthropic organizations.

And finally, we’ll facilitate learning and adoption of best practice in the Small and Growing Business sector by curating and disseminating lessons from ongoing initiatives and successful efforts in other emerging markets.
